Series: The Histories of Middle Earth book 1; prequel to The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Overall Grade: B

Basically, Christopher Tolkien published a bunch of his father's writing journals after his father's death -trying to put them in some semblance of order. This book contains the elder Tolkien's early versions of the early mythology of Middle-Earth, i.e. Valinor, the Valar, the First Age, the Simarils, the Kin-Slaying, etc. If you found the first half of the 'Silmarillion' unbearably dull then you should avoid this book at all costs.
Recommended to: people who are actually curious about the development of the mythology of Middle-Earth.
